Joan Lader, recipient of a 2016 Tony Award for "Excellence in the Theater," is one of Broadway’s most respected vocal coaches and voice therapists. With over 40 years of experience, she has provided vocal training and rehabilitation to professional voice users across Broadway, film, opera, and various musical genres including R&B, rock, and pop.
Ms. Lader holds a BFA from Penn State University in Theatre Arts with a Minor in Music and is also a Master’s level speech pathologist. She works closely with top New York otolaryngologists to rehabilitate injured voices. Certified as a Master Teacher of the Estill Voice Training System, Joan Lader has extensive training in the Alexander Technique, Fitzmaurice Voice Work, and Lessac’s techniques.
Her influence extends beyond the studio as she teaches master classes across the U.S. and has consulted for programs like NYU’s The New Studio and Anne Reinking’s Broadway Theater Project. She serves on the advisory boards of the Voice Foundation and Manhattan School of Music and has contributed to numerous publications on vocal care.
Most recently, Ms. Lader has been a guest speaker at prestigious events such as the Westminster Choir College and the 40th Anniversary of the Center for Voice Studies (CEV) in Poland. As a Master Teacher for the National Young Arts Foundation, she continues to shape the voices of future stars.
