Explore the structures that make up the body's intrinsic pressure management system and discover how they work together to create and regulate intra-abdominal pressure (IAP).
The Cylinder is a 4-hour educational course designed for movement professionals, voice professionals, healthcare providers, fitness professionals, and curious learners who want a deeper understanding of the body's inner core. Throughout this course, we will examine the integrated relationships between the diaphragm, pelvic floor, abdominal wall, deep spinal stabilizers, and other structures that contribute to pressure regulation within the body.
Rather than viewing these structures in isolation, participants will learn how the intrinsic system functions as a coordinated cylinder that influences breathing, posture, movement efficiency, force production, balance, continence, and vocal function.
Topics include:
• The anatomy and function of the intrinsic pressure management system
• How intra-abdominal pressure is created and regulated
• The roles of the diaphragm, pelvic floor, abdominal wall, and deep spinal stabilizers
• The relationship between breathing and pressure management
• How pressure influences movement, posture, and performance
• Common compensatory strategies and pressure management challenges
• Applications for movement, exercise, rehabilitation, and voice use
This course is designed to provide a practical framework for understanding how pressure management influences the entire body and how optimizing the cylinder can support more efficient movement and function.
